Swim familiarization and packet pick-up

We got our first glimpse of the venue today!

I took lots of pictures from the bus on the way there. Weihai seems to be pretty excited about this race - there are banners and signs and topiary things everywhere!

The one by the venue was still in progress...

We started our day with the swim familiarization. The water was COLD, but I have no idea of the actual temperature. It felt like Lake Logan though, so hopefully it will be wesuit legal. We decided to at least wear them today.

The water was really clear, and you could even see starfish on the bottom! It took me a while to get used to the temperature (and the salt water), but it was actually pretty pleasant. The swim course wasn't marked yet, so I'm not sure exactly where it will be. This is Jeannette. She and I decided we didn't need to swim out as far as we could see and stuck together.

Also, the local media wanted lots of coverage of the Americans.

After the swim, a few of us went for a short jog over to transition.

Then, on to packet pickup!

I'm number 1726. :)

We got lots of great stuff!!! So exciting! :)

After that, we dropped my bike off for the Team USA mechanic to check out - we didn't have the rear derailleur on exactly right, so that's why the chain seemed loose. All better now!

Then kungpao shrimp for lunch (maybe the best food I've had so far - Weihai is know for its seafood), a shower, and we're off in a few minutes to see the bike course by bus. Tomorrow we'll ride it - it will be closed to traffic for 2 hours.

Our Weihai experience is off to a great start!
